Secretary-General’s Message for 2018
On World Autism Awareness Day, we stand up for the rights of people with autism and speak out against discrimination.
This year’s observance highlights the importance of empowering women and girls with autism.
Mrs Hager Bjørnstad, spouse of the ambassador of Norway to Serbia, organised a presentation on issues confronting people with disabilities at the Norwegian Ambassadorial Residence.
The purpose of the seminar was to introduce the community of expatriates living in Belgrade to the situation of persons with disabilities in Serbia and what is being done to improve their quality of life.
Within the framework of the project “Protecting children from violence and promoting social inclusion of children with disabilities in Western Balkans and Turkey”, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNICEF, together with EDF, on 30th November 2016 at the Holliday Inn in Belgrade hotel NOOIS held one-day conference entitled: “Inclusive services for children with disabilities and their families”.
National Organization of Persons with Disabilities of Serbia (NOOIS) is umbrella organization of 13 Serbia’s national disability organizations, representing more than half a million of citizens of Serbia with disabilities.
NOOIS would like to hereby express to the Honorable Nobel Prize Committee of the Norwegian Parliament its’ adherence and support to Lenin Moreno Garces’, Constitutional Vice-President of the Republic of Ecuador, nomination for 2012 Nobel Peace Prize.
Bestowing 2012 Nobel Peace Prize to Mr. Lenin Moreno Garces would be recognition of his and Republic of Ecuador’s contribution to furthering the cause of persons with disabilities. This kind of recognition would be long overdue and much in order as persons with disabilities constitute 15 percent of world population; according to World Health Organization and World Bank 2011 World Disability Report, over one billion persons with various types of disability live on planet Earth today and they constitute one of the most numerous marginalized groups in society.
National organization of persons with disabilities of Serbia is the Union of organizations of the persons with individual types of disabilities, the organizations of legal advocates of persons with disabilities and the interest organizations gathering persons with different types of disabilities organized for the territory of the Republic of Serbia. It was established on June 22nd 2007 as the organization of special social interest with the legal status. It represents the united movement of persons with disabilities of Serbia, speaking in the name of most persons with disabilities, implying the most important political strength in advocating their common interests and needs.
Our mission is increasing inclusion of persons with disabilities in society, full respect of human rights and non-discrimination based on disability, through partnership of the unique disability movement and the republic in passing and applying the disability Laws and other documents, in compliance with the international standards and documents.
